A serious showing of support is being planned to combat a silent killer.
A team of employees at Burke Medical Center is planning the third annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk and Health Fair.
The event is set for Saturday, Oct. 25, 10:00am-1:00pm, on the hospital grounds.
A balloon release and two-mile walk will honor loved ones who have battled breast cancer, and the health fair will include free health tests and educational materials.
Games, inflatables and fire truck and train rides are in store for children as well.
A number of special, handmade items will be auctioned off to raise funds for breast cancer research, according to Burke Medical’s Tammie Salter.
Registration for the walk is $20, with all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society for breast cancer research. For groups of more than five registering together, the fee is $17 per person. Each participant will receive a breast cancer awareness t-shirt and a memory balloon. Forms are available at Burke Medical Center and Southern Bank.
